Description

"Bound to read" is created for an *exceeds artpack that has the theme "Bound". Sadly this artpack never will be released because there weren't enough submissions.

Anyway, this was my entry. Three little boys that are bound with a ribbon. It keeps them together to read eachother a story. There are a lot of things that are symbolic in this artwork. Their clothing for example; the jackets are only partly blue. Or the hat; the top of it ends with three little roses. I won't explain it or point out every little thing. Just keep in mind that everything is created with a reason.

Part of my inspiration comes from the the so called "Altered art". Collage artist often use vintage/Victorian photographs. These are altered by using paper, fabric, paint etc etc to spice up the original photograph. A lot of those artists give the person on the picture a hat that is made from a vintage letter or an old newspaper.

The landscape, hat, ribbon etc are created with brushes. A texture was used to create some extra contrast and depth.

'Bound to read' is a typical 'Johnish' artwork. I can imagine myself walking trough that landscape, wearing one of those hats and trying to discover what those boys are reading. Or what the reason is why those boys are fading away (or becoming one) with the landscape. Aaah well, I'm a dreamer. And I don't think that there is something wrong with it

Thanks for viewing and please only fav my work if you really like it :giggle:

Great work, really.

I'd like to know if I could use it to illustrate a poems book-cover.
