Description

I started yesterday with this artwork and finished it this afternoon. It's for a contest at Aselclub [link]
It's my first entry for a contest here at Deviantart. All the entries that have been submitted so far are awesome. And ofcourse I have some personal favourites.

Technique:
This artwork is (except for the girl) created with brushes only. The elventhrone, wings etc are all brushes. To prevent it from becoming too soft, I put a texture over it. At a very low opacity ofcourse. By doing this I tried to give it more depth and add some extra contrast. The little faces behind the throne are manipulated portraits from the same girl. I changed it in two bald little men. I tried to simulate the feeling of moonlight. The overall artwork is created with blue and grey tones. I know you can't see it, but there are layers underneath it all with some brown tones also. Altough I love old paintings I didn't changed this one in an old masters painting, like the rest of my work. This time I went for a slight painted look.

About the title:
The story behind the title? Ofcourse you can write your own story when you look at this artwork. But here is mine ..... There comes a time that elves don't have the power to do bad or evil things. That time will be called 'The end of magic'. The elf in the picture just received the bad news from her two little servants. She knows that her time has come because 'The end of magic' is the beginning of her kingdoms ending .....
